Hyper Pixel Ten Thousand is a Metroidvania-style platformer for desktop Web browsers. At the start of the game, you control a yellow pixel that can simply move left, move right, and jump. Soon, you'll find your way to a weapon, and then a double jump, and then a speed boost, and so on. The game is relatively short, but challenging, replayable, and much more complex than the first few rooms suggest. If you would prefer not to play in the browser, a downloadable Windows port is also available.

Amazing game! It was somewhat difficult on easy, so I will not try harder difficulties/challenges, but I manged to complete it and it was fun.

Very well made! And soundtrack is also nice. :)

yeah i give up. turns out being left handed is bad for these types of games haha

i couldn't even make it past the first level in medium because my right hand kept screwing up. looks fun though, maybe i'll play it next time when i need to train my right hand

Did you try the controls settings in the main menu?

Very good game! Finally beat it today with 96% on hard.  May go back for the one bomb I missed somewhere. I think you could cheese the final boss using the projector if you wanted to, I may try that as well.

Turns out it was a heart not a bomb, but I'm still at 98%. huh.

this game is insanely good. Easily one of the best Metroidvanias on itch.

I'm glad you like it! Looking back on it now, I'm proud of how packed with ideas it is, but if I were going to do this again, I'd want the game to explain itself better instead of expecting the player to figure out as many mechanics through just trial and error.

I found this game a few years ago and got maybe 60% of the way through it, and loved it so much. I've been replaying it this year and have spent so much time in it, it's such a brilliant game where someone like me (a casual gamer) can be really challenged but still have the game be really fun and compelling enough to keep at it even when its hard. I really love the ability to switch between areas of the map to keep picking away at it, so that when I get frustrated with one section I can go try somewhere else.

I'm pretty stuck right now, mostly on the first red room in the top row, that looks like lego blocks. I'm not sure how to get past that yellow zigzag thing, I've tried using the projector but I can't get through to hit that switch to open the gate.  (and I'm also stuck in the room with the candy canes and flying purple gumdrops, but I wonder if I need a power up first...)

Any hints would be appreciated! And thank you so much for making this game, it's one of my favourite indie games ever.

It sounds like there's actually at least one other direction you're able to go that you haven't gone yet.

I'm not sure if this is the section you mean, but I've tried going in the section that's olive green in the map, but I don't have enough star power to get through the W shape and then climb up to get to the section to the left, and I also tried getting to it from below by star mode/platforms to get in from the blue/grey section, I can get just about there but as soon as I pass into the olive green section above (for a split second), I'm out of jumps and I fall back down... is there a different direction I'm not thinking of?

Also thank you so much for replying!!

I'd rather not post full puzzle solutions in this thread. Is there another way I could contact you? You can email me at pshaughn@okayideas.com

Oh, another possibility here: You MIGHT already have the right powerup, but not thought to have used it... maybe go over all your powerups and think about lateral uses for them

One thing I don't like about the game is that when a teleprojector leaves the area, it disappears, and you can't use it.

I am currently stuck on trying to get to a new area. I have just gotten the -hover move.

The place you need to go next is very close to where you got *-hover. Remember that you can throw the teleprojector in midair!

Thanks, I was able to get into the new area. Great job making the game difficult.

Good Game. Last two hearts are hard to get. ( In the green area and in the cookie area.) Still working on finishing it.

good game but even on easy, I already fail on the section from savepoint to the first star ability. got star ability after te third try, died the next screen. all the way back to savepoint without any star ability and stuff :-/

I think you're slightly mistaken there; on easy, you should still have the ability if you died after getting it.

hm  okay, at least the coin was back at its place and had to be collected again

Fantastic game! I finished every challenge! Thank you for this!

Wow, that's the first time I've heard of anyone even _unlocking_ the last challenge. That message about a sequel refers to a long-past failed Kickstarter; I think about revisiting this game concept now and then but I have no concrete plans about it.

i don't really write comments but i wanted to say that i've been having a ton of fun with this.  i'm at 90%, i think i need one more star to get further. thank you for making this!

Great game.
I spent 4 hours nonstop to beat it on easy level.
I really liked it.

Thanks! Stay tuned for a followup this summer, in a similar style but different game genre.

I'm raped right now I guess.
or at least stuck.
Cause I just got the upgrade for the triple jump that should be somehow activated by pressing d or something. dont get it to work.
didn't read the instruction properly and there's no way to reread it, so I am essentially raped.
cause I dont lknow how to use that new star power and cant read it up again, so I'm stuck forever :-(

okay never mind you can reread messages in the menu.
still doesn't work though.

i press y for the first jump, then press and hold y for the second jump.

now according to the message some third jump or hovering or whatever should happen.
but nothing happens, same result as If i had just tapped y twice for double jump.

so how do i do this? O_o

also your "z" is the "y" key for me (aka the key next to x and c)

nevermind 2.0
one needs to be ins tar mode for it to work.

but a really complicated setup O_o

Thanks for playing! Regarding the QWERTY-US key names, there's no way to reliably detect the real keyboard names in the browser version, and the Windows version was just a quick hack I threw together and I didn't look into keyboard layout detection for it. I might look into it more on the Windows version in the future. Regarding the complexity of hover mode, I'm glad it was something you were able to figure out, and I'm glad you were enjoying the game enough to stick with it. In a larger-scale, more commercially oriented game, I would definitely have some sort of tutorial room for a technique like that instead of just a few text popups.

this really is a cool game, got all the coins and am at the end boss.

but holy shit, that last boss has many forms! :O

Would have been nice if the savepoint wasn't 3 rooms away from the boss though.

got it down to the last form with him only 2 hearts left.
gonna beat him any time soon :-)

Okay, just beat him.
Nice game!

Love metroidvanias like these! :-)
